The way you get to overlays is a bit different in Windows 7. In older versions, they were a feature of DirectDraw, and that meant you basically couldn't do anything other than lock-and-load -- DirectDraw couldn't even do color conversion, other than what the hardware overlay itself supported.

Feb 07, 2012 · DirectDraw Overlay (Proof of Concept) - posted in Scripts and Functions: This is only a proof of concept currently, on how to implement a DirectDraw Overlay in AHK.It may work with ATI cards, but not with nVidia cards which does not support RGB PixelFormat but only YUV. Mine is nVidia and it turned out to support only YUY2.
