There appears to be an extra powered USB port on a Inspiron 8500. This in fact is not an extra USB port. It is just a plastic snap-in piece covering the the hole where the powered USB port is on a Latitude D800 . To save money, Dell has used the same plastic bottom for both the Latitude D800, Precision Workstation M60 and the Inspiron 8500.

Mar 21, 2006 · I had the same problem with my i8500 (God, did I hate that laptop). However, I had to get so many parts replaced during its lifetime, I can't remember exactly which one I had to replace to resolve this issue. IIRC, I called tech support, placed a work order, and had them replace the motherboard (it was still under warranty).
