I've got a Dell Optiplex 755 desktop. It's a SFF, and I picked it up from the recycling room at my office. It just needed an HD fan, and it runs great. It's got a Core 2 vPro 3.0ghz in it right now, 4mb cache, and 1333-FSB. It runs great, but I'd like to upgrade it to a slightly faster processor and I'm considering my options.

Nov 15, 2011 · Unfortunately just because the chipset can support a CPU it does not mean that every motherboard using that chipset can. There are plenty of ways for MB vendors to screw stuff up. BTW for anyone who has the desktop model of 755 dell do a riser assembly which lets you put in a full-height graphics card, you aren't stuck with low profile crap.

However, the Xeon isn't on your list and some claim that the G33 Express Chipset, especially those installed in Dell computers, does not support any type of Xeon CPU. Could it be that with the latest BIOS update and proper modifications that the Dell Optiplex 755 should be able to support a Xeon E5440?
