Feb 21, 2017 · I'm currently using SOX to MP3 encode raw PCM audio. I normally use AAC, but my version of Sox doesn't have AAC support. The MP3's being produced have lots of clicks and popping noises. An example MP3 is attached. 1. Could I expect AAC encoding to produce a cleaner audio file? 2. Is there any way to compile SOX with AAC encoding support?

Nov 21, 2018 · Yes it's that simple, however you may need additional programs and libraries not installed by default to compile it. Does the sox in the Bin/arm-linux folder not run on your NAS? The armel sox included with the latest lms 7.9.2 has opus and dsd support already.

Reading MP3 files worked for me (Ubuntu 8.04 and higher) after installing the "libsox-fmt-all" package. If you're up to it, you can recompile SoX with MP3 encoding support, but there are other options if you really want MP3 encoding (see below). Decode to WAV (from wide variety of formats) with MPlayer
