Mar 14, 2017 · USB 3.1 Gen 1 is the same thing as USB 3.0. USB 3.1 Gen 2 is a different thing entirely as I expect it needs a much newer kernel. I don’t think it strictly requires USB-C, but in practice that’s the only form factor I’ve seen it appear in so far.

Aug 07, 2014 · I would like to add a 4 port USB 3.0 adapter to my server. Most of the products I've looked at say they do not support Linux, although several people have commented that they got it to work on a Debian derivative, or Ubuntu, etc.

Sep 27, 2016 · Even CentOS 7 has issues with some of the newest hardware. You have the double-whammy of UEFI and a newer chipset. While CentOS 6.8 can handily support USB3 on some hardware (been there, done that myself, with CentOS 6.5 if I recall on a Dell Latitude D830 with an ExpressCard XHCI (USB3) controller that worked great).
