Installing XP Pro (32 bit) with 8GB RAM I have a new machine and I'm going to be putting Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it. But I have some old programs that may not run in Win 7, so I plan to install XP Pro x86 on a separate drive (both clean installs), dual boot.

Apr 30, 2011 · I know that XP supported 4 gig of RAM when it first shipped. What I want to know is if during all of it's upgrades it has increased to 8 gig in the 32 bit version of XP pro Just to add a little to John's answer above, technically John is correct. 4gb is the stated max. However, I have never seen Xp detect more than 3.5Gb.

Sep 23, 2010 · I´m running out or RAM in my 4GB RAM setup, a lot of patches from my VSTi´s cant open, specially large pianos and strings. I heard that XP just can handle up to 4GB RAM but I´m not sure about it, one time I heard that it just don´t shows the 8GB RAM if you put it but it will actually use it.

Dec 05, 2007 · · just now. 32-bit Windows XP is limited to 4GB of memory max, and some of that address space is mapped to other things like video card memory, memory used by PCI devices (including onboard devices like your sound card) so that may limit your accessable memory even more. 64-bit XP Pro doesn't have the 4GB memory limit.

Sep 17, 2008 · As of XP SP2, client versions of Windows don't attempt to map memory into that range to avoid such bugs. I don't have a problem with 4gb under WinXP SP1a as I keep pointing out and want to know, is this a Limitation or technically a bug Microsoft put in place.

Mar 31, 2012 · Second is that the XP computers seldom had more than two slots and are wired for 4GB of RAM. Only a very few XP machines shipped that supported 8GB and only the server boxes supported more than 8GB of RAM.
