Jan 31, 2013 · You can't get IS as well as maternity allowance or smp. As soon as your baby is born, you can claim child tax credits and child benefit. With rent, the amount you get depends on your income (which would mean getting pretty much full rent paid) and whether the actual rent is higher or lower than the local housing allowance for the number of bedrooms you are "allowed".

The only thing I can think of is to claim Income Support at 29 weeks as this will entitle me to full housing and council tax benefits and the sure start maternity grant. Then once he is born apply for the maternity allowance.

Your partners income will effect the income support but not the Maternity Allowance. If your partner works more then 24 hours per week then it will lower the amount of IS you get.
