My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 R2, and the site says it supports AMD AM3+ FX/ AM3 Phenom II/ Athlon series processors. I’m not exactly sure what this means in terms of what this limits me too. i’ve been looking at AM3 processors and none are local, and i’m too impatient to wait for shipping. There are only AM4 processors near by.

Aug 20, 2015 · Theoretically processors based on socket AM3 + should be compatible with socket AM3, but I'm not sure if my motherboard can cope with it. On the motherboard manufacturer's website has no information about the support for this processor and the latest version of the BIOS for this motherboard from 2011 and is in Beta.Reviews: 6

Aug 10, 2012 · AM3+ CPU's will fit an AM3 socket the trick is BIOS support (mostly). AMD will not officially support AM3+ CPU's in anything but 9 series AMD chipsets.
