Jan 28, 2005 · To fix this problem you need to link your code to bufferoverflowU.lib. This should do it for most of applications out of there. Just do . cl.exe a.cpp bufferoverflowU.lib . or . link a.obj bufferoverflowU.lib . This is problem-resolution type of post. I am working on a KB article on this that should be published sometime soon.

Dec 31, 2016 · If the 3rd party library doesn't document its support requirements, you could try adding /nodefaultlib:bufferoverflowu.lib to link commands in accordance with the way such a bug has been worked around in the past. It seems like a bug to have that dependency, but it appears to be due to that library.Author: Dannycat

I omitted one detail: I compiled my library in Visual Studio as C code (/TC). That's why I expected this to work. Linking with bufferoverflowu.lib gets rid of __security_check_cookie and gshandler.obj supplies __GSHandlerCheck.
