Dec 13, 2008 · I can export to mp3 files, but when I try to open an mp3 file, I receive a message that this version of Audacity was not compiled for mp3 support. I have hunted everywhere I can think of for a compiled version of Audacity (I am not confident about compiling from source myself) without success.

Since, it was not compiled such way to support the mp3 format, you would have to firstly uninstall it then install it from other source. Use the command to remove audacity: sudo yum remove audacity.

Nov 19, 2009 · hello, I installed audacity but I can't open MP3 files. I get the message the version of audacity was not compiled with MP3 files support.I installed Audacity like this: # yum install audacity I also installed ffmpeg and LAME.

If you see the message "Audacity was compiled without MP3 files support" when trying to import an MP3, this means you do not have libmad installed.
