Welcome to the main starting point for Linux OS on SAM products. Its aim is to centralize information about Linux kernel and open source projects on Microchip AT91 Smart ARM-based Microprocessors (aka SAM). Our goal is to be an interface with open source projects that include AT91 support.

Russell is in charge to ensure the ARM core support in the Kernel mainline. The ARM-SOC git tree lead by Arnd Bergmann, Olof Johansson and Kevin Hilman. It is the initiative that managed to unify the work being done on ARM-based System on Chip (SoC) by different vendors. This git tree is the natural way to send AT91-related material upstream.

Mar 13, 2018 · - Booting a kernel directly from a floppy without the assistance of a bootloader such as LILO, is no longer supported. If you boot Linux from the hard drive, chances are you use LILO, which uses the kernel image as specified in the file /etc/lilo.conf. The kernel image file is usually /vmlinuz, /boot/vmlinuz, /bzImage or /boot/bzImage.

All AT91 SoCs are converted to Device Tree. Since Linux 3.19, these products must use this method to boot the Linux kernel. Work In Progress statement: Device Tree files and Device Tree bindings that apply to AT91 SoCs and boards are considered as “Unstable”. To be completely clear, any at91 binding can change at any time.

Mar 08, 2013 · When the at91 clocksource and irqchip driver are converted/moved we could support all AT91 SoC from RM9200 to SAMA5 in one board-dt. I don't see the reason for 3 board-dt files or even 2. That we can't build a kernel that supports both ARMv4-5 and ARMv7 doesn't make a difference. regards Joachim Eastwood

May 13, 2019 · Context : Linux kernel 4.14.73 (compiled by buildroot-at91, revision linux4sam_6.0) with custom DTS and defconfig files (that match my custom board hardware), based on at91-sama5d2_xplained.dts and sama5_defconfig in-tree files. I can post my files content if needed. As far as I know, PIT and TC Block can be used as scheduler clock source.
