However, I connected by old digital Rebel, which Apple says is supported - but having problems. Aperture recognizes the camera , displays the tether hud. I click on capture - nothing happens.

    Jun 12, 2010 · Tethering is only supported on specific camera models. Tethering in Aperture doesn't work with the T1i. Apple implements it based on a standard which Canon only implemented on some cameras (and it seems like none of the new models support it).     Aug 16, 2010 · Canon changed their tethering protocol after the 1D/1Ds Mark II and newer cameras (1* Mark III and 5D Mark II) do not support the standard tethering protocol that Aperture uses.
