Nov 14, 2005 · Windows-XP and ansi.sys are not part of the C programming language consequently your post is off topic. I suggest you try a Windows-XP news group. I had no problem using escape sequence such as printf( "\x1b[2J" ); for clearing screen before I started to use Windows XP.

Ansi.sys (in the system32 folder) is an "MSDOS driver" provided as part of Windows XP, 2000, and earlier versions of NT. In 2000 and XP, it is located in the system32 folder (I don't remember the structure of earlier versions of NT). Programs that run in the DOS subsystem and use standard output can use ANSI.SYS just as they could running over MSDOS.

This Terminal Emulator program has a custom display which requires Ansi.sys to be loaded in order to appear correctly. I now need to replace the Win98 pc with an XP machine, but I can't get the Terminal Emulator to display correctly. It seems that XP has partial support for Ansi.sys already built in.
