Restart Anki. Open the Japanese deck to which you plan to add vocabulary. Open the deck properties and take note of the field names your cards are using. Assuming you are using the official Anki Japanese support plugin, your cards will have three fields: Expression, Meaning and Reading, as displayed in the screenshot below.
