While Intel artificially limits ECC support to pricey Xeon processors or low-end Pentium models that no one would ever use for serious work, AMD have always quietly supported ECC memory. It might not be advertised, and it’s certainly not validated, but it’s been there on AM1/AM2/AM3 platforms for the adventurous to make use of and there’s a die-hard contingent that do.

AMD supporting ECC memory on their desktop Ryzen platforms will make them the CPU maker of choice when home users create their own workstations, FreeNAS file servers and other system types that can benefit from ECC memory. Nov 25, 2019 · ECC Unbuffered is what you need. Asrock and Asus support ECC on all AM4 boards I believe. MSI doesn't support ECC at all from what I know. Gigabyte only supports ECC on boads with higher layer counts which would include the X470 Gaming 7, and some older boards too like AX370 Gaming 5 and the K7. Some ITX boards might work too.

As expected, ECC support ist listed in the manual. Is there something I missed? Btw., ECC support in "consumer" class hardware was my main motivation to buy AMD (and ASUS) hardware for the past five years and worked as advertised, kudos to AMD, although I'd wish FM1 had that capability, too. I just hope the FM2 platform fixes that issue.
