Ultimately, there are technically 3 things needed for ECC support. CPU support (all AM3+ chips do) BIOS support. Chipset support (990FX and all other AM3+ chipsets support it to my knowledge) In the case of AMD, number 2 is generally the hardest to achieve. AFAIK, ASUS is the only one who actually adds ECC support to the listed specs.

In fact, lots of AM3+ boards work fine with ECC memory, but many of them do not actually list it as a supported feature. Asus officially supports it, so PCP should reflect this. http://support.amd.com/TechDocs/49686_15h_Mod_00h-0Fh_FX-Series_PDS.pdf

Oct 24, 2012 · You are right, all AM3/AM3+ processors can support unbuffered ECC memory modules. The only limitation resides to what the board manufacturer can do. I will check with HQ for you on this support.

As expected, ECC support ist listed in the manual. Is there something I missed? Btw., ECC support in "consumer" class hardware was my main motivation to buy AMD (and ASUS) hardware for the past five years and worked as advertised, kudos to AMD, although I'd wish FM1 had that capability, too. I just hope the FM2 platform fixes that issue.

Many cut-rate and 2nd tier motherboard manufacturers have been omitting the ECC feature from most AM2 and AM3 boards for quite some time. Also note, this is about Unbuffered ECC (72-bit) DDR2/3 DRAM support. (* Means there is support mentioned in a manual or docs) (* Means there is unverified\unofficial support)

May 09, 2014 · FM2/FM2+ processors do not currently have any support for ECC memory, registered or unregistered. There are several AM3+ (unregistered) and G34 (registered) boards that do, however. An AM3+ board...

Jul 02, 2014 · AFAIK all AMD CPUs and chipsets *can* support ECC RAM, it's just up to the mobo manufacturer as to whether they make it available in the BIOS. When I ran a Sempron 140 + ASUS M4A785TD-M Evo that *definitely* supported ECC. Best bet is probably to download the manual for any mobo you're thinking of and check the BIOS settings available.

Sep 08, 2017 · It stated "Support for ECC Un-buffered DIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8 memory modules", this would rationally mean that the ECC ram is supported in its ECC mode (as it is not explicitly stating otherwise). By the time of writing this I am using Linux kernel 4.12.10.

Jul 22, 2014 · For ECC you will need to go AM3+ (unregistered) or G34 (registered) for ECC support. AM1 does as well. However it does sound like you have …

Mar 02, 2017 · The chipset does not have any direct say in ECC support, the memory controller is inside the CPU. All AMD desktop CPUs since the Newcastle Athlon 64, including all Semprons, and all APUs since Trinity have supported ECC as far as I know. (Brazos and Llano didn't.) Just the FM2/FM2+ socket was not ECC capable because it lacked the necessary pins.Reviews: 12
