SSA disk drives can receive downloads whilst they are in use by the system. It is not necessary to vary off any volume groups which they are in. If a download microcode to a disk drive which in use by AIX, the system may experience a slight delay while the code is loaded by the disk drive.

Hello all, Anybody know whether or not AIX 5.3 will support SSA subsystems? We are installing a new p5 520 pre-installed with 5.3, and need to use our existing SSA DASD. I ask because the latest SSA drivers are only for 5.2. Will they work with 5.3? Thanks, BobAuthor: Robert Weinmann

Mar 27, 2005 · If your system is pre-4.3.3 you have a problem and must contact IBM for older filesets. The SSA stuff is not an RS6k / pSeries product so you will need to contact the storage / SSA support people in IBM to get help on pre-AIX 4.3.3 problems.
