The official Conformance Statement for the device at the Z-wave Alliance products website will indicate whether a specific model supports beaming or not. If you add a new repeating device, or physically relocate an existing one, run the Z-wave repair utility so that all your devices will update their neighbor tables to use the new repeater.

This does require that all devices in the network responsible for relaying the commands between the controller and the device also support beaming. The Z-Wave capability routing doesn’t mean the device routes traffic, it actually means that it’s able to control other devices.

Z-wave beaming is actually part of the standard. What it allows is the ability to communicate with devices in sleep mode, which are usually battery operated devices. A device will send the “beam” periodically to a battery operated device. The battery operated devices will, at certain intervals, wake up to listen if a beam is present.

Jun 25, 2019 · If it’s a certified device, you can check the zwave alliance “implementation conformance statement.” I believe all the GE hard wired switches and plug in receptacles that are zwave do now support beaming (secure Communucation). I know the dimmer outlet 12718 does, it’s the one I’m using as a repeater to my zwave door lock.
