In the past where 3rd party SFP's did work, I'm willing to bet a large percentage of faulty SFP's that came back to HP were non-genuine, either from people not being honest or simply being unaware that they did not have a geniune HP product. Either way this drives up support costs.

HP's H3C acquired stuff + 3rd Party Optics (I think by Axiom) = Total nightmare, would not repeat. To expand a bit more. With the Procurve and third party optics, it really depended on whether the support guy noticed that they were third party optics. If he did, I was SOL. If he didn't, I was OK.
