Feb 03, 2012 · The framing was 1/2 inch plywood deck. Under the deck were two 1/2 inch plywood crosses (plywood cut 1/2 way at the center so locked two 3' long pieces of plywood). So a total of four 3 foot plywood boards. It last me for years and through 3 moves (I was military at the time).

My limit for 3/4" plywood shelves is 32", and I think that is pushing it for heavier objects. The other option is to have a stile in the middle of the span and put shelf supports on the stile and the backs of the cabinet, effectively cutting the shelf in two.

Sep 10, 2008 · it depends on the type of plywood, the size of the plywood and also how far apart the supports on each side are apart but i would say a standard 1/2x4x8 would hold about 120 pounds without a worry of breaking assuming its not a person jumping or moving around on it.
