We do support Linux for the commercial versions of XSI. As for why there is no academic products for Linux at this time. I think that question should be directed to [email protected] or [email protected] ; they will be able to give you a formal response to this question.

Re: Porting Enhance:XSI Texture to Linux Currently fedora core5 is the easiest to live with, fedora core7 will still work and is more updated, and in the near future hopefully the official target platform will become fedora core8 (which at present time is tricky to get to run xsi on).

I really wish Softimage would either work hard to support newer distributions of Linux (particularly versions that haven't already passed thier End of Life), or dump mainwin for a newer, better supported GUI technology (such as QT). It's rather disappointing that I have to stick to using an older version of Linux to continue using XSI.

There’s no need to fiddle with third-party software sources, PPAs, downloadable Deb packages or anything of the sort. Instead, users just need to enable a proprietary Ubuntu software source (that Canonical maintains), install some packages, and restart your system.
