XSane is a graphical scanning front-end for SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy). It uses the SANE-library to talk to scanners. It is designed for acquiring images with scanners (there are other devices like cameras and videodevices supported by SANE and you will see that xsane may support some basic functions of those devices, but XSane is not designed for that purpose).

How, as a standalone? if I call xsane without the Gimp open, it by default scans to viewer, file or others, but under Gimp, it scans to the Gimp. My xsane under Gimp is located under 'file/acquire' from top-menu. Right, I mean that I tried to verify if xsane worked, was in order.
