Nov 02, 2018 · In extended support, Windows 7 is just receiving security updates. Those will stop on January 14, 2020. (Note that Windows 7 only receives security updates if you’ve installed Service Pack 1.) Windows 8.1 left mainstream support on January 9, 2018, and will leave extended support on January 10, 2023.

Jan 14, 2020 · Mainstream support ended on April 14, 2009 -- that is over 7 years of mainstream support. Extended support ended on April 8, 2014-- normal almost 5 years. Now compare to Windows 7 -- October 22, 2009--- general availability. Mainstream support until January 13, 2015. (barely over 5 years of mainstream support compared to over 7 for XP)
