    Sep 09, 2009 · I recently did a clean install of Windows XP then updated to SP3. When I plug in my thumb drive, the computer won't recognize it. If I take the same thumb drive and plug it into my laptop with XP SP3, it reads it just fine. My guess is a driver problem, but when I use Troubleshooter and try to update the driver, xp says it likes the generic one it has, which apparently doesn't work.
