For those using PHP5 on CentOS 4, a simple "yum --enablerepo=centosplus install php-xml" will do the trick (this will install both the XML and DOM modules). up down

Actually, that’s not the case. LibXML2.5.10 works prefectly fine. I happen to have LibXML2.6.18 installed in my home directory and PHP5 compiled with XML support. it works perfectly. I use simple_xml with no problems at all.

This is a PHP5 issue, not apache. There domxml functions have been removed in php5. php5 is much better at xml - take a look at the online documentation for more information. If you are using legacy code that needs to use the domxml functions then you can still install a pecl package to make this possible.

I need to use php5 (5.6) because I'm working on a Drupal 7 project which doesn't support php7. The problem is I recently updated to ubuntu 16.04 Xenial which seems to no longer support php5.
