Jan 13, 2014 · Optical only support 5.1 via DTS and (in a later update) Dolby Digital. This is a technical limitation of the actually cable regardless of the devices on either end of the cable. The only uncompressed audio optical is capable of carrying is stereo. My PS3 managed Dolby TrueHD over optical. The cable is far from being the limitation.

Jul 27, 2017 · My TV is a Sony xbr65x850d; i get 5.1 launching app directly from the TV and a couples Apps from my amazon fire stick but not when 'm playing blue ray. if i connect the Xbox one S directly to the Sonos speaker via the Optical cable i get 5.1 but not if i connected from the TV any solutions?

Sep 29, 2017 · Now if I try with the Xbox One S, I can either choose stereo uncompressed or Bitstream with Dolby Surround, however I do not get 7.1 and I am told my received does not support 7.1, which it does via arc as per the previous setup using my LG Bluray and my Astone media centre, both of which I could set to passthrough and the ARC would do the rest.
