This is becoming a real problem - why won't Microsoft do anything about supporting this format on Xbox - it's easily becoming the most popular format used these days but other people's threads about it don't seem to get any real official response as to why Microsoft aren't supporting it.

Sep 21, 2012 · After having installed Windows 8 on my machine, even using W8 codecs (shark), Windows 8 Xbox Video cannot see my mkv files. Is there a way to fix that? A special codec? Remember the WinRT apps are selfcontained. You can extend using WinRT components i.e. written in C++ and may be use the Windows Media Foundation.
