Officially the X61 supports SATA-I at 1.5Gb/s speeds. Unofficially there's a non-Lenovo BIOS that allows SSDs to run at SATA-II/3Gb/s speeds. The improvement in speed between HDD and SSD is so great, even at SATA-I speeds, that you probably don't need to change the BIOS.
