I have an old AVM router (Fritzbox 7220 from 2007), where they provided last month a fixed firmware for problems like these. I don't expect a manufacturer to upgrade any functionality for EOL products, but to fix severe security issues should be done for a product heavily distributed.

Oct 24, 2012 · The Tomato firmware on my router was turning a bit old, so I looked at the newer builds. It’s a jungle out there, but I managed to work my way through it. It was actually quite easy, so read on if you have a 610N and want the even easier way 🙂 The Linksys WRT610N is outdated and my guess is that it was probably never really popular.

Not specific to the WRT610N, but with the 5 Ghz band, the channel limitations per regulatory domain are much broader than with 2.4 Ghz channels. Since dd-wrt doesn't limit the 5 Ghz channel selection, you run a much higher chance of setting the router to a channel which your client device (which does honor regulatory limits) doesn't support.
