Feb 03, 2010 · The cvar 'processAffinityMask' controls which CPU cores are available for the World of Warcraft client to use. Previously the game client was limited to 2 cores as a default which players could override in the configuration file. In the past this provided a performance boost on some CPUs and operating systems.

WoW is extremely CPU bound, meaning that its performance is highly dependant on processor speed, rather than other factors. When using a medium to high-end GPUs from either Nvidia or AMD, WoW usually won't be able to use the Graphics card at its full power, because it is being held back by the CPU.

But so far there are very few applications that can actually do multi-threading. It would be nice to see a list of apps that are multi-threaded, since these will run much faster than single threaded ones.
