Installing XP Pro (32 bit) with 8GB RAM I have a new machine and I'm going to be putting Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it. But I have some old programs that may not run in Win 7, so I plan to install XP Pro x86 on a separate drive (both clean installs), dual boot.

Dec 16, 2008 · Hi, I recall reading when XP first came out that the optimal RAM for it was 2 GB and that more would actually slow it down. I am wondering if anyone has looked at this, and if running it on a system with 4 GB would cause it to perform less desirably than if the system only had 2 GB.
