If you're using an APC UPS, disable the Windows native UPS service and let Powerchute do the job instead. The Windows UPS service is for basic UPS devices that don't install their own service. Normally installing the Powerchute software disables the Windows service anyway, but this appears not to have happened in your case.

Feb 17, 2012 · I'm trying to enable my ups (APC Back-UPS350) on my new windows 7 desktop pc. APC told me to install PowerChute software/drivers. The install stops with a 'disable native windows power management' statement. I can't figure out how/where to do this.

I replaced a problematical UPS with an APC 1300 VA model number BX1300G UPS. I plugged the cable that came with the UPS for monitoring the UPS into the data port on the UPS end and the other end into a USB port on a Windows Server 2012 Essentials system.

When I had time to go to the server direclty I found it was a bad cable and the Windows Native UPS Support had not been removed properly. After upgrading to a newer version of Power Chute, and replacing the cable my issue was resolved.
