Feb 22, 2013 · File conversion, unless it can be done effortlessly, does not look like a good option. I thought about upgrading my ancient Media Player to one that plays .wtv files. I am looking at the Western Digital WD TV Live Steaming Video Player. The specs on this unit list an impressive number of compatible file formats - but .wtv is not one of them.

Jan 30, 2015 · Media Player will not play my recorded TV .wtv files. It tells me "Windows Media Player cannot play... because you do not have the appropriate rights. Media Center will play the file but Media Player will not. It's a file I just recorded using Media Center earlier today.

Feb 21, 2016 · But when I choose this for a "known-good" source - such as a WTV file that plays with subs in WMC - it doesn't display the subtitles. For files recorded using MythTV (on Windows) VLC does show the subtitles, so I know that it can see them in the multiplex that is broadcast and saved, just not, it seems, in the wrapper for WTV.
