Apr 12, 2013 · WiFi on Windows 8 does not support WEP – Shared Key Authentication. I was troubleshooting a Windows 8 laptop that wouldn’t connect to a customer’s wireless network recently. The wireless network was configured using the WEP – Shared Key Authentication method which is horribly insecure and should never be used.

Mar 16, 2013 · Windows 8 does not ask me for the WEP password when I try to connect to the CISCO WRT120N router. I am trying to connect to a friends WRT120N router. I click on the wireless routers SSID, but it never asks me for a WEP password. Any help would be appreciated.

After doing research it seems that Windows 8 does not support the "shared key" security type. Maybe I can get my grandfather to convert it to open-key and not have many problems on the network. Sorry for the trouble. I never thought that windows 8 would just stop supporting a network config.
