Mar 05, 2014 · I recently upgraded from Windows 8 to windows 8.1 and lost all functionality for my Kodak printer. I have regained some use but I need to enable bidirectional support. When I find this option in the printer properties it is greyed out and I am unable to select it. This option is greyed out for all the printers I have listed.

Turns out the checkbox of enable bidirectional is not check at all. Repeat the step of checking the enable bidirectional, click apply, then close dialogue. Open the dialogue and find the checkbox is unchecked.

I have tried two different drivers for a Brother DCP-7020 printer, and under properties, ports, the option for "Enable bidirectional support is gray and not available. When I did that, my option to enable bidirectional support was grayed (ghosted), which left me scratching my head. But then I figured out why the computer was locking me out. By first clicking on the button circled (which grants administrator rights and allows you to change settings), I was able to finally enable bidirectional support.
