Nov 25, 2003 · The default Nullsoft MPEG-4 Audio Decoder which comes with Winamp 5.12 now supports all MP4/M4A audio files (with AAC/AAC+ content), with no need to install any other 3rd-party plugin(s). It still doesn't support drm-protected .M4P files, ie. of the type downloaded/purchased via iTMS (ie. you need ThomasW's plugin for .m4p support).

They play fine in itunes and dbpoweramp but they wont play in winamp 5, is there a codec or something I can download to make them recognised without renaming them to .aac because it will play them with that ...

The MP4 plugin supports unprotected .m4a and .mp4 files and is included with Winamp 5 and can be copied to the MediaMonkey plug-ins directory (both libmp4v2.dll and in_mp4.dll must be copied). The MP3 plug-in supports AAC files.

Sep 02, 2011 · Judging by your first screenshot, it looks like Winamp is trying to use the MP3 Decoder to play M4A, which means that in_mp4.dll isn't present, and that's why you can't play any M4A files. Reinstall Winamp 5.62 and make sure MP4 is checkmarked under the Multimedia Engine > Audio Support section on the Choose Components page.

IMPORTANT! - As from Winamp 5.12 and later, the default Nullsoft MPEG-4 Decoder (in_mp4) supports he-aac/nero digital mp4/m4a audio files, so there's no longer any need to use this plugin. Note, the new in_mp4 still doesn't support mpeg4 video or proprietary Apple lossless audio (alac), though neither does the 3rd-party plugin. Jun 01, 2012 · Re: WinAmp plugin for M4a Have tried both 5.622 and 5623 which I downloaded yesterday. Copied the in_m4a.dll to the plug-in folder then only it plays m4a songs, at the expense of my Asian (Chinese) song titles!
