The WiiKey was announced at the beginning of February 2007 and shipped at the end of the month. It is one of many modchips available for the Wii by Nintendo and acts as a firmware replacement funneled through the debug serial port - tricking the DVD drive into believing that the backup is in fact legit, much like current Xbox 360 chips do.

#2 Now that your firmware is current lets get the wiikey going. Go to psx-scene and Download your wiikey config disc v1.3 (or 1.2). I would recommend the GCOS version that is already padded/filechop'd. Once you burn that to a Working DVD (check list below for working media) insert it into you're wii.

May 21, 2007 · The Wiikey is still a great chip! Honestly, there's only a *few* new features, like the expensive DVD-9 format support, and an Audiofix-Fix, for what, a few games that have issues? Seriously, enjoy the games you have, you don't have to regret buying a Wiikey because of a few delays.
