Solved: Hi Guys, I know VSS (Virtual Switching System) is supported in Cisco 6500, 4500 E series and in Cisco 6800 X and XL series switches. But does the Cisco 6800 ia, or any other Cisco switches support VSS? Is VSS a Cisco proprietary protocol?

Creating a VSS 1440. The key enabler of a VSS 1440 is the Virtual Switching Supervisor 720-10G. Any two Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches with this supervisor engine can be pooled together into a VSS 1440*. The two switches are connected with 10 GbE links called Virtual Switch Links (VSLs).

Patrick. As far as I know VSS is only supported on 4500, 6500, 6800 switches. However if you mean a pair of stacked 3850s and you then uplink an access switch using etherchannel and spread the etherchannel over both 3850s then this is supported.

When removing the preempt commands in Catalyst 6500 Series Switches in VSS Mode, will it reload the switches? The switch preemption is not recommended. Therefore, removing the commands is a good practice and does not cause a reload.
