What I did was: install both ESXi servers, set up the vSwitches and port groups, connect the storage (I've tried both iSCSI and NFS) and install vCenter on a newly created Windows 2012 R2 virtual machine on ESXi host 1. Everything is set up and working fine (at least in terms of 'no errors').
