To make HEVC/H.265 files playable with WD TV, you will need to convert them to a format that is compatible with WD TV first, such as MP4, AVI, MKV, etc.

Mar 01, 2014 · However one thing I've noticed is it doesn't play any subtitles. My films are on an external drive and are either .avi or .mp4. When I play these on my PC using VLC Player I can see the subtitles, however not when I play direct from the WDTV or if I stream using PS3 Media Server.

Fun Fact: even the latest WDTV’s only have a Single Core Processor running at 700Mhz. here’s a pic of a 720p H.265 short film playing on my Android Octa core Cortex A53 @ 1.2GHz. as you can see CPU0, CPU1,CPU4 and CPU5 are being used to decode H.265 at this scene
