I know, it support flac, but, I’ll be buying the live hub soon, and I already own a wd live. The peoblem is, the wd live support the flac, but it **bleep** at it for some reason! the quality is bad and it keep stoping and playing the sound without syncing, it is horrible!!

Oct 15, 2015 · It appears that WD TV Live Streaming with the latest firmware reports to DLNA Controllers that it does not support FLAC. But even if the DLNA controller sends the command to WDTV to play the file, WDTV runs into some error and starts playing the last track that played correctly.

Conclusion: The WD TV Play has support for FLAC playback via optical but down samples 88.2 kHz 24 bit audio to 44.1 kHz which is an improvement over the WD TV Live which simply mute output. I would welcome additional configuration options to pass thru a perfect digital bit stream untouched for FLAC sources over optical connection without down sampling.

You can check the User Manual for a list of supported codecs for each file extension. Audio -- MP3, WAV/PCM/LPCM, WMA, AAC, FLAC, MKA, AIF/AIFF, OGG, Dolby Digital, DTS - AAC/Dolby Digital/DTS decodes in 2 channel output only.

After some specific questions posed to WD tech support, they have confirmed that the WD TV live is suppose to support multi-channel FLAC files, but that the failure to decode them properly is a know firmware issue. There does not appear to be a target date for fixing the issue.

I can confirm that on WD TV Media Live Plus, 24bit 96khz stereo flacs and wavs still get downsampled to 48khz, while 24/88.2 get downsampled to 44.1khz. It crashes on 24/192 stereo files, and no sound at all for 5.1 24/96 flacs and wavs. This is even though in the “release notes” they said the high resolution audio “bug” was fixed.
