I have bought 4 WD media players e.g. Plat tv. I was so surprised to find that the elements play can not play DTS as like most people I buy on line and the item description did not indicate this deficiency or I would not have purchased as I expected the usual WD high standard compatibility.

Oct 14, 2015 · When I bought the WD Elements Play there is not movies whit DTS files. Now what’s more are movies with DTS sound files. In addition to WD has already on the market new products that read DTS, so I can’t understand why WD doesn’t update the WD Elements Play.

Oct 15, 2015 · i have a WD Elements Play 2TB Media player. I am having issues with x264 mkv files not playing any sound. Does anyone know if this is a common issue? Or is itsomething unique to my player? Will a firmware update correct this problem? I have tried following the instructions to update the firmware, however it doesn’t seem to recognize the firmware update file. Any help would be appreciated.

Oct 14, 2015 · Well, those products *are* licensed. Says so right on the box. The WDTV HD Gen2 and all the WDTV Live devices say “DTS 2.0 + Digital Out” right on the box. The documentation states that DTS *IS* supported. The WD MINI and the WDEP do NOT have such a certification, and the documentation specifically states that DTS is *NOT* supported.

Buy a media player with a) DTS support and b) easy installable HD. Then dismantle the WEP and put the HD into the new player. I’m however not sure, if WD does some magic behind the scene thus making the naked harddisk unreadable => make a backup (something that you should do in any case).
