May 23, 2007 · Generally, tanks sit on the joists in the loft. These are usually 16" on centre and are 4" x 2" graded timber. A flat surface under the tank equivalent to a normal floor (3/4" chipboard or tongue and grove) is used to fully support the base of the tank.
