Dec 01, 2011 · Hosts built with ESXi 4.1. Vsphere 4.1. HA cluster I turn on SSH or "Remote Tech Support Mode" and I get a warning in vsphere saying "Remode Tech Support on host has been enabled" and a yellow warning triangle on the host that I can't acknowledge or dismiss

Since VMware ESXi 4.1 Update 2 and VMware ESXi 5 the warning can be suppressed. When starting the Remote Tech Support (TSM) service it is possible to SSH to the ESXi host.

Sep 13, 2010 · Any vSphere API client, e.g. vSphere Client, vCLI, and PowerCLI; Tech Support Mode – actually both local and remote TSM are blocked; Even if Tech Support Mode is enabled, Lockdown Mode effectively overrides this by preventing any connection from succeeding. The only way to manage the host remotely is through vCenter Server.

Sep 13, 2010 · Once enabled you will notice that the host within vCenter has a warning being shown. When selecting that host, and looking under the summary, vCenter alerts you to the fact that Remote Tech Support Mode (SSH) has been enabled.

Mar 01, 2010 · Red Hat is fully in favor of granting us access to our Red Hat Linux servers. There has never been a question about who is in control of the system and that support would be offered. “Tech support mode”, should be fully supported. It should be allowed and endorsed by VMware and granted to ESX admins without a second thought.
