[Updated 24/12/2013] As of vSphere 5.5 and vCenter 5.5 VMware has tested and now supported the use of SQL Server Database for vCenter on a traditional Microsoft Failover Cluster solution. This does not however include the use of Always on Availability Groups. Support for Always on Availability Groups may be included in a future release.

Feb 02, 2017 · Essentially VMware are not going to support MS SQL 2016 with 6.0u2 (even 6.5 isn't compatible) as they are pushing users towards the appliance. I found this out after speaking with VMware where they said one of the reasons they weren't, was due to the slow uptake of SQL 2016
