So I'm running VMware Workstation 12 Player on 16.04 host. And every guest i run complains that "No 3d support is available from the host" and "Hardware graphics acceleration is not available" "Accelerate 3D graphics is checked off in the player.

No 3D support is available from the host. The 3D features of the virtual machine will be disabled. After several hours of digging around and experimentation, I sorted out the answer which I'll post below.

Jan 23, 2015 · running W10 as a GUEST on VMware WKS 11 / vmplayer 7 message is no 3d support from Host. However the VM seems to work perfectly and I'm not getting as far as I can see any degradation on graphics --play an old game like spider solitaire - if the card movements are jerky then graphics are not working properly.
