Aug 12, 2011 · They do support LLDP, the vendor neutral equivalent of CDP. It appears that ESXi has support for CDP, but does it have support for LLDP as well? Moving forward we would find this very beneficial so we do not have to make a trip to our data center to check when we believe there is a physical connection issue.

LLDP is available for vSphere distributed switches version 5.0.0 and later. When CDP or LLDP is enabled for a particular vSphere distributed switch or vSphere standard switch, you can view properties of the peer physical switch such as device ID, software version, and timeout from the vSphere Client.

Jul 15, 2011 · In vSphere 5 the new LLDP support is unfortunately for Distributed Switches only, available at Enterprise Plus license level. It would have been a good feature to be able to activate LLDP on standard vSwitches from the old esxcfg-vswitch command as before.
