May 24, 2017 · An ESXi host is not like a normal Win or Linux server. You should not power down a ESXi host without first putting it in maintenance mode (all VMs must be powered off or vMotion to another host). UPS controlled ESXi host shutdown can be very tricky as not many people put ESXi hosts under 1 UPS each....means 6 ESXi host with 6 UPS.

Jun 03, 2019 · I would like to know what is required to gracefully shut down a VMware ESXi environment while using APC Smart-UPS for the backup power. I would assume that I would need a UPS with a network management card (and not a lesser UPS with SmartConnect). May 23, 2008 · I don't know your UPS, but if there isn't any agent for ESX (or generic Linux) to talk with the UPS I suggest you to follow this way : Create a script on another machine wotking correctly to UPS to execute the following action at a specific battery level (low):

Nov 04, 2013 · The other possibility is to install NUT (network ups tool) as "client" on ESXi-server (and all but one VMs), and NUT "server" on one master-VM (can be VMa). This one VM will "listen" to UPS (using usb pass-through), and when there is power interruption, issues shutdown-commands to all NUT-clients (including the one running on ESXi).
