Nov 26, 2009 · Welcome to the VMware Community forums. Your server has a software RAID controller (Intel ICH*R or nVidia MCP) which is not a true hardware RAID controller. The drivers with ESX(i) don't support software RAID for such controllers thus the best you get is a bunch of individual disks. Dave . VMware Communities User Moderator

Jan 03, 2014 · Now, I built the server and put ESXi 5.5 on it and connect to it with vSphere. The only parts I Didn't get yet are the RAID Controller and hard drives to go with it. I'm trying to determine what RAID Controllers will be compatible with ESXi and possibly provide passthrough, so that I can use FreeNAS as my file server.

Apr 12, 2014 · It is extremely annoying that in ESXi 5.5 VMWare dropped support of even booting off so-called "software RAID" controllers. I just tried upgrading one of my hosts from 5.1 to 5.5. This host has a pair of 60GB SSDs in RAID-1 on mobo built-in Marvell controller used for ESXi booting, scratch and local cache, and was working beautifully under 5.1.

Oct 26, 2018 · Search "LSIprovider" on the compatibility check page to see the 6.5 U2. Search your raid card again, and see it probably says 6.7 supported. ... 00.71.00.04 09/17/2018 but still VMware 6.5 ONLY! ... I recently put in a support request to Broadcom re: the ESXi 6.7 support.
