Apr 08, 2008 · ESX doesn't elminate IDE, it eliminates IDE hard drive controllers. So it doesn't support those type of hard drives. Just because your system is on the HCL ALL components must be on the HCL as well. Like Show 0 Likes (0)

For our organization, virtual IDE support is more important than physical IDE support (i.e., the ability to create a VMFS on an IDE drive.) Currently, we are using a GSX server to meet this need, but we'd love to be able to do this with an ESX server instead.

If it is the case that the IDE drive in your host is recognized by ESXi, then you will be able to modify the install script TargetFilter.py to recognize your IDE device as a supported install device. You can find the list of devices that ESXi can recognize here.
